Hey Centennial,
When was the last time you were given a timely, important reminder?
Just this morning, I was on the phone with my brother when an alarm I had set on my phone went off. I set it as a reminder to get in the car and take my kids to school. Time had flown by that morning, so I needed the reminder!
On a more serious note, I was reading the book, The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry, and the authors wrote these sobering words, “Reminder: Your phone doesn’t actually work for you. You pay for it, yes. But it works for a multibillion-dollar corporation in California, not for you.” I’m not sure I wanted that reminder, but it was important.
This Sunday, we are going to get a reminder of the greatest importance.
During worship, we will hear from a brother who grew up in a country that persecuted Christians, and now dedicates his life to sharing the hope he has in Christ. We will also be hearing a sermon from Jon Opgenorth, the president of CCC’s newest mission partner, Words of Hope. Words of Hope speaks of how hard it is for Jesus followers to find safety while living in a country like this where Christians are persecuted:
“And yet, even in this very hard place, there is a sincere longing for the good news of the gospel. The underground church there appears to be growing faster now than ever before, proving that hope in Christ is stronger than the fear of death.”
Here is my hope, may this Sunday be a reminder to us of just how precious and valuable our new life in Christ is.
And may it be an inspiration for us to live our lives fully following him.
Grace and peace,
Karl Helvig
