Hey Centennial,
When was the last time you got in a fight?
It probably wasn’t a fist fight like the one I vividly remember seeing breakout during a school football game when I was in tenth grade. It more likely was a fight involving hurtful words or hurt feelings. It may have been because of something truly serious or severe – sadly, deeply hurtful experiences do come in life – though it may also have been a fight over something which, in hindsight, was not worth fighting over. Which brings me to my point.
How do you know if something is really worth fighting for? Better yet, how do we know when someone or something is worth fighting against?
This isn’t your typical line of thought during the season of Advent, but I bring it up because this Sunday we’re taking a look behind the scenes at the Christmas story. As we continue preparing for our celebration of Christmas, building our anticipation of the arrival of Christ, we look this Sunday at the story behind the story.
Christmas is about Gods ultimate fight against the ultimate enemy, the powers of sin and death.
This is most certainly a fight worth fighting and an enemy worth fighting against.
If that’s not enough of a teaser to get you to gather with Centennial this Sunday, here’s my final try.
There will be dragons. Yes, dragons for Advent.
*Smile*
Eager to gather as a community of Jesus followers.
Grace and peace,
Karl
P.S. Remember, Christmas Eve worship gatherings are at 3:00 and 4:30pm. The two services are identical in content (thanks Craig Blomberg for catching my confusing syntax in last week’s email 😊), both ending with our traditional candle lighting.
P.P.S. Childcare will be available at both Christmas Eve gatherings. Parents, take a look at the weekly email from His Kids for details.
