Hey Centennial,

Over the nearly 40 years that CCC has been a community, there have been a number of themes and threads to our fellowship. One theme has been the presence and encouragement of seminary students in our community.  Several students from Denver Seminary are currently part of CCC and one of them, Jael Shumaker, is going to be preaching this Sunday. I’m stoked to hear the sermon she has prepared! She will preach from the book of James, chapter 4 verses 1-10, and here is the challenge she’s giving from that text.

Submit yourself to God.

Now, you might be thinking, “Karl, I’m not a big fan of the word, ‘Submit.’” And if you are thinking that you’re not alone. In fact, I looked at the trend on google searches since 2004 for the phrase, “Submit to God” and the image below is what I found.

Turns out, if you are not from one of these 8 states, then the phrase “Submit to God” is almost never searched. However, it most certainly is a topic that Jesus’ brother James speaks about, along with plenty of other authors of scripture. CCC is a community committed to looking at the whole teaching of scripture and faithfully applying that teaching to our lives. That’s what we will do again this Sunday and I hope you make it a priority to gather with your community to worship, pray, and open God’s word together.

Grace and peace,

Karl Helvig
