Hey Centennial,
This week, we’re diving into another challenging teachings from Jesus, it’s in Matthew 25:31-46. It’s a passage that talks about eternal punishment—and let’s be honest, it’s not an easy topic to wrestle with. I’ve been studying and teaching from scripture for decades and it still makes me uncomfortable!
But here’s the twist: before we talk about what Jesus says about punishment, we’ll take a look at how we punish ourselves. When I’m honest with myself, I must acknowledge that I do it in many ways. I bet many of us carry a burden we were never meant to bear. But our critical and harmful self-punishment must not be the way we understand the meaning of punishment when Jesus speaks of it. He is talking about something so much better and hopeful.
Join us as we unpack this difficult passage and discover how God’s grace invites us to stop punishing ourselves, live generously, and choose joy.
See you Sunday!
