Hey Centennial,

What does it mean to focus on formation?

I wrote a whole newsletter a few weeks back about this—and other—questions. If you haven’t yet, [read it here]. Formation is, and always has been, at the heart of CCC. So, it’s no surprise that we’re talking about prayer in our current sermon series.

Prayer is essential to formation.

Last week, we explored the idea that prayer is power. If we’re honest, we sometimes think of prayer as missable, sentimental, or even delusional. But we know the resurrection is real—and prayer is our point of contact with the same power that raised Jesus from the dead.

This week, we’re following that theme, but from another angle:

Prayer is curiosity.

Prayer is power—but sometimes we don’t see it. That can be discouraging. Or—it can lead us to curiosity. We can begin to form the habit of asking:

I wonder what God is up to here.

We’ll be looking at a stunning sentence written by the apostle Paul to the church in Rome: Romans 8:9–11.

If you know someone who’s discouraged, seeking direction, or exploring faith, this is a perfect Sunday to invite them with a simple:

“Come sit with me at my church this Sunday.”

Grace and peace,

Karl

P.S. There’s also a lot happening after church:

  • Lunch with Kari Taracinska, CCC’s newest global mission partner. You won’t want to miss it—she has a powerful ministry to youth and young adults in Poland.
  • A brief update from Children’s Pastor Nicki Nickerson about the recent Midwest Conference Annual Ministry Celebration.
